944

944 was a regional fashion, entertainment, and lifestyle publication that operated in the United States from 2001 to 2011. This noteworthy publication was the brainchild of the original 944 Media company, founded by Marc Lotenberg in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2001. With time, it became part of 944 Media based in Los Angeles, marking a significant phase in its evolution.Image:944-sample-cover.webp

In a bold move that showcased the magazine’s growth and expanding influence, 944 Media announced the acquisition of Six Degrees in March 2009. Six Degrees was a competing upscale lifestyle magazine with editions in Atlanta, Detroit, Miami, and Las Vegas, as well as an accompanying web portal. By October of that year, 944 Media ceased the publication of Six Degrees and launched two new editions of 944 to penetrate the Atlanta and Detroit markets. The magazine’s expansion continued in April 2010 with the launch of its tenth edition, this time targeting the Dallas market.

However, despite its expansion and success, the company faced significant challenges. In April 2010, 944 Media, LLC. declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California, Los Angeles Division. The company was represented by Landau Gottfried & Berger LLP during this period.

Ultimately, on June 1, 2011, 944 announced the publication of their last issue and the permanent closure of the business. This marked the end of a decade-long journey that had seen the magazine grow from a local Phoenix publication to a nationwide lifestyle brand.{{Categories}}
