Access Magazine is a biannual publication based in the United States, specifically in Los Angeles. It was founded in 1992 by Melvin M. Webber, Professor of City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley, and ceased its print editions in 2017. Following this, the magazine transitioned into an online publication.

The magazine reports on research conducted at the University of California Transportation Center and the University of California Center on Economic Competitiveness. The primary objective of Access Magazine is to translate academic research into readable prose that can be beneficial for policymakers and practitioners. It aims to propel academic research into debates about public policy, and to convert knowledge into actionable solutions. The authors of the papers published in Access Magazine are solely responsible for their content. Much of the research featured in Access Magazine was sponsored by the US Department of Transportation and the California Department of Transportation, neither of which is liable for its content or use.

The University of California Transportation Center (UCTC), a multi-campus organization headquartered on the UC Berkeley campus, facilitated research, education, and public service on the University of California campuses at Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Riverside, and Santa Barbara, and on the California State University campuses at Pomona, Sacramento, San Bernardino, and San Luis Obispo. UCTC published issues 1 through 44 of Access Magazine from the Fall of 1992 through the Spring of 2014. They also will be publishing the Spring 2016 and Fall 2016 issues.

The Editor in Chief of Access Magazine is Donald Shoup, while John A. Mathews serves as the Managing Editor. Notably, the magazine has been used in the curricula of top Urban Planning programs including the University of California, Los Angeles, Cornell University, Rutgers University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Portland State University, and Florida State University.

Access Magazine has achieved considerable recognition in its field. In 2013, it was named “Organization of the Year” at the 24th Annual California Transportation Funding (CTF) Transportation Awards, where it was cited as the “face of the University of California Transportation Center” and lauded for publishing “incisive commentary on transportation issues of the day”. It also received the American Planning Association's (APA) 2014 National Planning Excellence Awards: Communications Initiative as well as APA California's 2014 Communications Initiative Award. That same year, Access Magazine was awarded the Certificate of Excellence from the Western Publishing Association, being a Finalist in the “Initial Trade Print Categories: Semi-Annuals, Three-Time, and Quarterly”.

Furthermore, Access Magazine has been widely referenced, reprinted, and translated in numerous publications, including Al Jazeera America, the Atlantic, Fortune, the Huffington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, the Observer, the Telegraph, U.S. News & World Report, the Washington Post, and Wired, among others.

As of Spring 2016, Access Magazine had issued 48 print editions and had over 8,500 subscribers. The magazine's reach and influence have grown over the years, making it one of the most widely read publications of transportation research.{{Categories}}
