White Dwarf is a magazine published by Games Workshop that covers the Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 universes. The magazine was first published in June/July 1977 and has been published monthly ever since.

History

White Dwarf was originally conceived as a more general fantasy and science fiction gaming magazine. The first editor was Ian Livingstone, one of the founders of Games Workshop. In the early years, White Dwarf covered a variety of topics including roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons as well as board games and miniature wargaming.

Over time, the magazine began focusing more on Games Workshop's own products set in the Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 universes. By the late 1980s, White Dwarf was almost exclusively covering Warhammer and 40k. This remains the case today, with White Dwarf serving as the official magazine previewing new miniatures, rules, and backstory from Games Workshop.
